Thematik
Elizabeth Anscombe (1919-2001) is without doubt one of the most influential thinkers in the philosophy of action. In recent years, interest in her book Intention (1957) has grown strongly, which is at least partly due to persistent problems of reductionist and functionalist approaches to action. The book counts only 94 pages, but is an important source for reflecting on the nature intention, intentional action, and acting for reasons. In the seminar, the aim is to reach a deep understanding of the main claims, strengths, and weaknesses of Anscombe’s approach to action.
